Gutter

Characteristics

Gutters have gray-blue skin covered in scars and wounds. Their bloodshot eyes glow with a malevolent red light. Their faces display a wild, almost animalistic rage, and their sharp teeth are always ready to bite.

They live in groups, making them even more dangerous. They are extremely aggressive and attack in hordes, using their numbers to overwhelm their opponents. In the absence of food, Gutters will cannibalize each other, making them unpredictable and desperate. Their presence in a city is always a harbinger of danger and chaos.

Gutters are a horrifying sight, with their emaciated bodies and grotesque features. Their hunched posture and elongated limbs give them a predatory, almost spider-like appearance. Their skin, stretched tight over their bones, is mottled with patches of decay and disease. Their fingers are tipped with sharp, claw-like nails, capable of rending flesh with ease.

Despite their appearance, Gutters are incredibly fast and agile, able to navigate the narrowest of spaces with ease. They communicate with each other through a series of guttural growls and hisses, coordinating their attacks with frightening efficiency. Their intelligence is limited, driven solely by the need to feed and spread their curse.

In the depths of the night, the guttural sounds of Gutters can be heard echoing through the abandoned streets and sewers, a chilling reminder of the dark forces that lurk beneath the surface of civilization. They are the embodiment of the corruption and decay that plagues the underbelly of the city, a constant threat to those who dare to venture into their territory.

Habitat

Gutters are most commonly found in the poorest districts of the city, lurking in dark alleys, sewers, and abandoned buildings. They thrive in areas where they can scavenge for scraps of food or carrion. They are drawn to places where civilization leaves its waste, hidden in shadows and filth.

Origin

Gutters are a completely distinct species that evolved under extremely hostile conditions. Legends say they were created through dark rituals that combined the traits of several other scavenger creatures, resulting in new, unpredictable beings. Another theory suggests that Gutters arose from a curse that befell a group of beings living in the city’s underground, transforming them into bloodthirsty monsters.

Luring Gutters

Rumor has it that the scent of rotting meat or the cries of a wounded animal can attract Gutters from their hiding places. Additionally, the foul smell of the Rotbloom plant, a specific and pungent flora, has been known to draw them out. Those brave enough to hunt these creatures often use these as bait.

Weaknesses

Gutters are highly susceptible to bright light and fire. It is said that sunlight burns their flesh, and they avoid it at all costs. Holy symbols and blessed weapons are also effective against them, driving them back with divine energy. Additionally legends say that the sound of Silver Chimes—bells made of pure silver—has been known to repel them, causing them to flee in terror.

Methods of Elimination

To combat Gutters, seasoned hunters recommend using torches and blessed weapons. Traps baited with rotting meat or Rotbloom can lure them into the open, where they can be dispatched with fire or holy magic. Always ensure to work in groups, as Gutters rarely attack alone and their numbers can quickly overwhelm solitary fighters.
